Q: What is your role in Student Affairs, and what do you enjoy most about your job?

A: My role in Student Affairs is the Coordinator of the Student Union Activities Board within Campus Life. Beside our two graduate assistants, I oversee and advise the members of our executive board and the facilitation of 60+ free, engaging events each academic year. Two of the things I enjoy most about my role is the being able to watch our executive board grow as individuals and leaders, as well as the impact we get to make on students through our events. There is truly nothing better than seeing a student find their home away from home on OSU’s campus.

Q: What does making an impact look like in your role?

A: There are several ways in which I’m able to make an impact in my role. First includes working with the SUAB Executive Board and developing them as leaders throughout the academic year. Second is by fostering a community on campus through our events. I’m able to provide insight & advice to students when planning our events, to ensure that we are serving the entirety of the OSU community. Lastly, I get to work with several on-campus partners on collaborations which are not only fun and engaging, but also have an educational aspect.

Q: Why did you choose to work in Student Affairs?

A: While I was pursuing my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, my goal was to work within healthcare. During my senior year, I realized that my true passion lied within helping others, and not specifically medicine. Through conversations with supervisors and mentors, I was made aware of the field of Student Affairs. Reflecting on my college experience I realized my most enjoyable experiences were when I was making an impact on students, during my time as a Camp Cowboy counselor & director. Once I realized that I could continue to make that same impact and researched the field of Student Affairs more, I knew where I needed to be.

Q: What do you wish others knew about the resources/programs you work with?

A:  There are two things that come to mind: The first being that SUAB wants to hear from the students! We love to take in your suggestions and be able to host more events on campus that people desire. Whether that be post-event surveys, semesterly event proposals, or just messages on Instagram, please reach out to us!

Secondly, while I oversee the organization alongside my Graduate Assistants, our executive board does a substantial amount of the work for our events. I have a group of absolutely amazing students who pour everything they have into hosting events that will positively impact our community. We love getting to interact with students on campus, so if you ever see any of us, feel free to say hi!
