Frank Merrick
Distinguished Alumni Award - Legacy of Excellence
Frank W. Merrick was a dedicated professional who served his community in multiple roles, including President of Foundation Management, Vice President of the Merrick Foundation, President of Ward S. Merrick, Inc and others. His work spanned managing oil, gas, real estate, and venture capital investments. Before launching Foundation Management, he was Vice President of Trust Sales for Bank of Oklahoma and Vice President of Development for the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. His extensive experience in banking and foundation management provided him with valuable insights into the financial world.
Frank also had a strong commitment to community service. He served as Past Board Chair of the Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma, the Ardmore Development Authority, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. He founded the Homeless Alliance in Oklahoma City and served on its board. Additionally, he served on the board of the Palomar Oklahoma City Family Justice Center and as Chair of Crossings Community Clinic. Frank played a key role in adding low-income housing to the Maps 4 agenda, aiming to connect marginalized citizens to valuable resources. To say Frank left a lasting legacy is an understatement.
Frank began his post-graduate journey after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. During his time at Oklahoma State, he not only excelled academically but was also actively involved in various student activities, including Interfraternity Council, Greek Week, Spring Sing, and other Greek activities. He embodied the Cowboy Code and always championed his beloved Cowboys everywhere he went.
The Merrick family's legacy in philanthropy began in 1948 when Frank's grandfather, Ward S. Merrick, established the Merrick Foundation to enhance the quality of life and health of Oklahomans. Through Foundation Management, Frank and his team streamlined operations for private family foundations and public charities, managing over $250 million in assets. His legacy lives on as Foundation Management continues to make transformational impacts in communities everywhere, one of those communities being Oklahoma State University. Frank shared a deep passion to help people – specifically people who needed it the most. He was a pioneer in creating momentum to support mental health services at Oklahoma State University during his lifetime, which has transformed the way OSU serves its students.
His influence and impact continue to change the lives of students at Oklahoma State as the Merrick Foundation and Foundation Management honor his legacy through their steadfast support to some of the most pressing needs at OSU.
