Rising Star Award

Dr. Darron Lamkin's decision to pursue engineering was driven by his desire to support his ailing mother, Rochelle Lamkin. He worked tirelessly to achieve his goals, specializing in mechanical design, software development, and process improvement. Today, Dr. Lamkin is the founder of Class Matters, an organization dedicated to providing equal educational opportunities for students of all backgrounds.

Drawing upon his extensive background in engineering, education, and leadership, Dr. Lamkin has developed innovative programs that foster equality and opportunity for all. He has partnered with schools, universities, and businesses to create a more just society where everyone has the chance to succeed.

In addition to his work with Class Matters, Dr. Lamkin is a Software Scrum Master and Product Data Management Engineer at Boeing OKC, where he supports software development and configuration on various aviation platforms. He holds a Ph.D. in learning, design, and technology from the Oklahoma State University College of Education and Human Sciences and has authored a book called "Black Child," which serves as a guide for troubled youth to navigate peer pressure.

Dr. Lamkin is an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers, where he advises the junior executive team for the pre-college initiative chapter. He has also received numerous local, regional, and national awards for his community outreach efforts.

Driven by his passion for helping aspiring engineers, Dr. Lamkin founded Class Matters in 2010, a non-profit organization that empowers at-risk teens and prepares them for college-level science, technology, engineering, and mathematics studies. He travels extensively, delivering inspiring talks to high school and college students, sharing his life lessons, and encouraging them to fulfill their potential.

Despite his many accomplishments, Dr. Lamkin remains dedicated to his family. He is a proud husband to Shante' Lamkin and father to Kayleah Lamkin, Dilynn Lamkin, and Skilynn Lamkin.
