Spring Break Safety

Tuesday, March 5, 2024

As we turn the page from February to March, as college students, we have one thing on our minds — spring break. Prioritizing safety throughout your break is crucial to ensure that you and those around you have the best week possible.

Make good choices!

Spring break can be spent anywhere. It could be a week-long road trip with your friends, a peaceful beach visit, leisurely time back at home or even staying in Stillwater. No matter where you are going or what you are doing, consider these tips:

  • Be smart. No amount of fun is worth you or your friends' lives. If consuming alcohol, be sure to know your limits and to always keep that in consideration when choosing to drink.
  • Be alert. Whether you’re in a new place or your own town, it is always important to be aware of your surroundings. If you are going somewhere you’ve never been, or taking a stroll around the neighborhood, make sure to have a buddy. There is strength in numbers, and it’s never a bad idea to be extra careful.
  • Be educated. Know where you’re going, what your plans are and who you will be with. It is important to have a plan in place to navigate your week, but also a plan that can be implemented if something was to go wrong.
  • But most importantly, have fun! You deserve the rest and time away from school. Make this spring break the best one yet by being smart and making good choices!

Some Spring Break Suggestions

As college students, free time is hard to come by. Let me give you some ideas on how to spend your week off if you don’t have specific plans in place:

  • Try something new! Visit the new restaurant you have always wanted to try. Participate in an activity that you think looks fun. Find a craft or project to entertain yourself with. Spice things up with change and exciting and unfamiliar things!
  • Rest & Rejuvenate! This seems pretty self-explanatory, but is so important! A week off school means time to catch up on sleep that has been lost throughout the semester. Give yourself the gift of relaxation to make up for all of the late nights spent studying or out with your friends.
  • Do some spring cleaning! Sure, cleaning may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for some, it may be just as relaxing and rejuvenating as a nap! Welcoming the spring season often prompts many to tidy around the house. What better time to get some spring cleaning on than spring break?
