Learning to Cope with Grief and Loss
Monday, October 9, 2023
The loss of a loved one is difficult, and create a pain that does not easily subside, nor should you feel like it must. The important thing to note is that there is no right or wrong way to mourn. To feel is just a part of the process.
Symptoms of grief can be physical, emotional, cognitive and/or spiritual. It is important to note that all of these symptoms are natural and normal.
Some common symptoms include:
- Sadness
- Anger
- Change in sleep behaviors
- Feeling numb or detached
- Memory loss/brain fog
- Physical pain
- Questioning the meaning of life
The journey through grief is a very personal experience that can be challenging to navigate. Some of us might express our feelings by going for walks or runs, or by writing or painting. For others, it may be more beneficial to talk with family and friends, or seek professional counsel.
