Self Care Checklist

Friday, September 20, 2024

The hustle and bustle of the semester is picking up and it’s easy to let self-care slide down the priority list. Taking care of yourself is crucial for thriving both academically and personally. Whether you're navigating the highs of game days or the lows of test weeks, here's a checklist for you to remember to help keep you feeling your best:

Fuel up

Start your day with a glass of water and stock up on healthy snacks to help with focus, energy and overall well-being. Fueling your body with the right food and drink will keep you energized and focused without the sugar crash. University Dining Services has an array of good food options all around campus!

Move Your Body

Whether it’s a group fitness class at the Colvin or a walk around Library Lawn, getting your blood pumping is key. Exercise is essential for both mental and physical well-being!

Prioritize Rest

Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night. I know it’s tempting to pull an all-nighter to study for that exam, but your brain will thank you for the rest. Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule to stay on track.

Take Mental Breaks

Your brain needs a break just like your body does. Take time away from your studies to meditate, listen to music or engage in something that is restful and enjoyable. OSU offers places for relaxation like the Reboot Center that is free to all students. You’d be amazed at how much a little mental time-out can refresh you.

Connect with Friends and Try New Things

Don’t underestimate the power of a good chat. Catch up with friends, join a study group or just hang out. Social connections can help you feel more grounded and less overwhelmed. OSU offers a variety of clubs and organizations to get involved in to try new things and meet new people!

Ask For Help

There’s no shame in asking for help. Whether it’s  academic support counseling services or talking things over with a mentor, reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Taking care of yourself is essential to making the most of your college experience. Use this checklist to help you stay on top of your well-being and enjoy all that OSU has to offer.
