Greenwood Rising Museum

This full day excursion to Tulsa, Oklahoma explores the past, present and future of the Greenwood district to help OSU students better understand historical events, community resilience and the devastating effects of racism on American society. Before embarking on an educational journey into the heart of the Greenwood business district, a bus tour of the district’s boundary lines will reveal the size and scope of this once-thriving, predominantly Black community.

Upon arrival to the OSU-Tulsa campus, located in the Greenwood district, you’ll view the Greenwood Rising Memorial to Dr. Woods and visit the Greenwood Cultural Center. A walking tour along Black Wall Street’s N. Greenwood Avenue follows, where you’ll discover plaques, buildings and memorials to the victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre. Enjoy lunch-on-your-own at one of several iconic, local restaurants before touring the Greenwood Rising Museum, which offers historical context, cultural perspective and a pathway to hope and healing. Finally, you’ll return to the OSU-Tulsa campus to process the day’s experiences with Dr. Quraysh Lansana, Director of the OSU-Tulsa Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation and Miss Captola Dunn, Greenwood community leader and winner of OSU Tulsa’s inaugural ASPIRE award. Group photos will be taken at the Black Wall Street Memorial Wall before boarding the OSU Motor Coach to return to Stillwater.

Transportation and activities are provided free-of -charge to the first 100 OSU-Stillwater participants who register.  The OSU MLK Celebration Committee is incredibly grateful to OSU’s Ferguson College of Agriculture, OSU-Tulsa, Dr. Quraysh Lansana, Ms. Captola Dunn, the Greenwood Cultural Center and the Greenwood Rising Museum for their enduring commitment to the future and for their generous support of this project.
